Thoughts After A Blah Day

If your Mom is still alive, don't take her for granted.
Hang out with her more.
If you don't write in a journal, do it!  Especially memories of good times.
Turning on good music is the best way to wake up when you don't want to.
I hope potty training kids is easier than potty training a daschund.
Just because everyone else is pregnant right now is not a good reason to get pregnant.
Also, not everyone is pregnant.
I think I like being busy better than not busy.
I hate making big decisions.
I hate red lights when I want to drive fast.
Or get home fast.
I'm glad that I chose a husband that I love being with.
Listening to recordings of myself playing the cello is kind of depressing.
Sometimes I feel like I'm not that good at it.
I applied for a 'big girl job'.
I'm trying not to get my hopes up about it.
But I can't help it.
Jason Mraz's new CD comes out today.
I'm excited for some new tunes.
I want to talk to my mom about all of these things.
Do you think dead loved ones miss us as much as we miss them?

A Weekend In Review

What a weekend was last weekend! 

Nathan's Uncle Brian is pretty rad.  He owns the most awesome gay club in Salt Lake City.  Even if you're not gay, The Jam is a rocking' place to hang out.  And he just recently bought, renovated, and reopened what used to be Club Vortex, and is now The Bay.  It's an 18 and older, alcohol free, club and it's going to be awesome!  He's really cleaned it up and done some cool things with it.  Last Friday was opening night, so we hung out at The Bay. Got the behind the scenes tour, met legendary DJ Harry Cross, enjoyed free coke, and had a good time! Go to The Bay!  It's fun.  

Saturday morning, we went over to Nathan's Mom's house and watched LDS General Conference with the fam.  We got to play with niece and nephew Brecklyn and Riley who we don't get to see very often, and we got to meet brand new baby Parker.  What a cutie! I love General Conference.  There are always at least one or two talks that are exactly what I need to hear.  This year it was President Uchdorf's talk about not gossiping, etc.  STOP IT, he says.  

Saturday afternoon we watched Conference just the two of us, at our own place, eating boneless buffalo wings from the new wings place down the street- Wing Nuts.  Gotta admit, not my favorite.  But wings are wings. Love to my husband for ordering them, choosing delicious flavors, and picking them up for us, all while I got ready for the day.  

Saturday night, we went to The Venue to see a concert that Nathan had been looking forward to for YEARS.  No kidding.  Years ago, Nathan bought tickets to see one of his favorite bands, The Format, and somehow he got the address wrong, went to the wrong place, and missed the concert completely.  And then, not long after that, the band broke up, and he lost all hope that he would ever see them again.  THEN, recently, the lead singer joined up with a new band called FUN. and they are just as awesome as The Format.  Their song was featured on a super bowl commercial, launching them into international fame, and bringing their song "We are Young" to the top of the music charts.  Their show sold out pretty quick, and when Nathan realized this, he was so disappointed.  He spent the next few days DILIGENTLY scouring ticket listings on KSL.  At the last minute, he found a really good deal and snatched the tickets mere seconds after they were posted.  And thus, we ended up at FUN.  A band called Avalanche City opened for them.  They were really great.  This is my favorite of their music videos:

FUN was great too!  So energetic!  And the crowd was so into it- that always makes it a great night.  They took a long time to come out on stage though, and in the mean time, we kept checking the score of the KU vs. Ohio State game on the phones of people around us.  Turns out that FUN was watching the game back stage, and didn't come out until the game was finished, because their bass guitar player is a KU alumni.  KU won!  And it was the guitar player's birthday, so we got to sing to him.  It was a FUN night.  A long night, but a fun night.  

On Sunday, we went over to my Dad's house to try to have Pig Breakfast- a tradition started by my Mom where we eat a huge breakfast as a family the morning of Sunday conference.  But since half of the family was out of town, and my Dad had already eaten his own breakfast by the time we got there, it didn't really go over as planned (or not planned, and that was the problem).  So Nathan and I made our own cinnamon  roll Belgian Waffles (recipe on pintrest) and enjoyed conference with my Dad.  

That afternoon, we (Nathan, my Dad, and I) headed to the U of U to watch the last performance of the Season on the Nova music concert series.  My favorite Mother Hen, Anne Francis of the Fry Street Quartet, had saved us some tickets.  Brahms, Schoenberg, Osborne, and Adams were all on the program. The Osborne piece for solo percussion was one of our favorites- the drum player yelled, fake played, knocked over the stand and stormed out.  It was awesome.  And it was so good to hear Anne play and to visit for a little bit after the show.  

After the concert, we headed back to Dad's house.  We tried another pintrest recipe- Chicken Cordon Bleu roll ups- delicious! And then watched the afternoon session of conference that we Tvo'd on Dad's tv.  

Yes indeed, it was a weekend to remember!
