The single item on our bucket list this summer that I was most excited for was our trip to St. George. To Nathan and me, St. George means completely different things. To me, it means childhood summer vacations staying at my Dad's friend's condo, which meant we got to watch cable TV and go swimming every day. It means dance competitions at Tuacahn with my dance besties, and swimming every day. It means the Pizza Factory and the Chums outlet and all the other outlets for that matter. It means visiting my cousins every summer and having the best time ever. To Nathan, it means staying in an old, rundown town where his grandparents would stay all winter in their trailer. And I don't know why that's not fun and exciting to him. :)
We didn't really plan anything for this vacation, and that made it even more exciting. Nathan got some weekend time off of work-- which never happens. And we just said we would drive down to St. George and go from there. We also knew we wanted to try out Toquerville Falls, Sand Hollow Reservoir, Zions Ntnl' Park, and Bryce Canyon. We also decided that we wanted to use our cell phones as little as possible. So off we went.
We made it to St. George on Friday late afternoon, and decided to stay at the Ramada, because it seemed inexpensive, but not disgusting. We got checked in and in the process, Clementine fell asleep. So we took the opportunity to all take a family nap. And it was a great decision. After our nap, we spent some time swimming, and then headed next door to the Brick Oven to use our Ramada guest discount on their gigantic buffet. Then we all went home, stuffed to the brim. Clementine zonked out and we watched Key and Peele episodes on our own separate queen-sized beds. Sounds romantic, eh? It was glorious.
The next day, after sleeping in quite late and hitting the very end of the Ramada breakfast buffet, we decided to take several peoples' advice and try out the St. George Children's Museum. Guys, this place is cute! And it's free. Clementine was in her zone.
Feeding cows on the farm.
Delivering the mail.
Being veterinarians.
Not knowing quite what to do on stage with a bunch of twirling, singing Annas and Elsas.
Coloring.
And being a dragon.
After the museum, we headed outside to play in their awesome water feature. It's like the canyons fountain at liberty park, but hotter, since it's St. George. She was basically too tired to have fun. Nap time is hard on vacation. But she sure looks cute in her red swimmy.
And that was the end of our St. George adventure. We decided that instead of paying $90+ a night for a hotel, we would rather spend the money on some camping equipment and sleep in the great outdoors. So we stopped by Dicks for a clearance tent, clearance sleeping bags, a clearance cooler, a lantern and some roasting sticks. We got some breakfast and sandwich supplies at target, and went up the road to find nature...
