Another Horoscope

Today's horoscope:
"Changes are coming, but at least you won't be bored."

SURE THING!  I can think of only a handful of elements in my life that are staying constant lately.  And I'm definitely far from bored, which is making the time fly by at a lovely speed.

I hung out with my besties at a CD release party for Marshall Jensen this weekend.  There was a BBQ and fun little concert in Jeremy Winn's backyard.  I sure love acoustic music.  And Marshall is good!  Ya'll should give him a listen sometime.  Summer nights + good music + friends = awesome.

It seems like I went to a lot of doctor appointments last week.  I went to chemo with my Mom so she wouldn't have to be alone- we ate snacks and
watched episodes of the office on her ipod while she shot up the big drugs.  I went for a gyno visit, and the doctor reminded me of Meryl Streep somehow, but made me feel comfortable and concerned about my health.  And last but not least, the ENT who I'm pretty sure thinks that all I want in life is sinus surgery.  He seemed really nervous to tell me that my problem isn't serious enough for surgery at all... as if that's not GREAT news!  He made fun of me for being a music major grad student though, and told me that I'll just have to live with my post nasal drip for the rest of my life.  I was definitely sick of him by the end.

Breaking news- I'm trying out vegetarianism for a month... not so much because of animal rights and PITA whatever, but because of the way meat and dairy products feel in my digestive system... and that way is SICK!  It's a completely selfish experiment, and so far the results are good.  If things keep going this way, I might just be a veg for life! :)

This is a long post.  Here's a picture of Stephanie and me at the Logan Carnival!

Horoscopes Etc.

On Yahoo!'s homepage, there is a little navigation bar that has links to email, weather, music, traffic, and such.  It also has a box for your daily horoscope.  Now believe me, I'm not one to plan out my life in accordance to what stars and planets are aligning at the moment, but it has become a guilty pleasure of mine to read my horoscope and muse about how it could apply to my current situation.  Here's what mine said today:

"Reminiscing about the past is better when you have someone to remember it with"

OK... On the first reading of this I thought "how true is this!".  I've been missing my missionary like crazy these past couple of days, most of my best friends in the world are in various places around the country, and I've been spending lots of time reminiscing and looking at old photos of good times past.  True story that it would be better to have these friends around to re-share these good memories with!  It's been lame doing it alone.

Then I read it again.  Perhaps it means that the memories are more clear, more accurate, more correct when you have someone else to recount the stories with.  Two heads are better than one when it comes to such things.  They say that absence makes me heart grow fonder.  Maybe by reminiscing alone, I am creating a rose colored version of the past?

What ever the Yahoo! stars are trying to tell me today... with my great migration to Michigan growing closer and closer (26 days!), today I feel like clinging to the past, and everything familiar, with anyone who's willing!

Small List Of Noteworthy Happenings...

* I rode my bike to work on two extremely flat tires, and let me tell ya, it was HARD WORK!  By the time I realized they were flat, I was already half way there and was too late to turn back.  Dumb plan.

* I bought my first bike pump and things are looking up.

* Nyle and I took a quiz from a book called "The MANual" in the Hardcover Cafe and I found out that I am 40% attracted to "bad boys".  Nyle, surprisingly, is only 30%.  Go figure.
* I got 2!!! letters from Nathan... I mean Elder Morris... on July 7 because of the mail being backed up from the 4th of July.  Letters are always an exciting event in my life.

* I moved all of my furniture from the upstairs of my house to the downstairs (by myself) because with no AC and the physical laws of hot air rising, my room was becoming a solar-power oven.  The main floor is much much cooler, and side benefit of moving all my stuff... I threw away a lot of junk, and donated generously to the D.I.  I'm feeling very- decluttered.

* I finished my second week of playing Mother Hen.  Things are still going great.

* Tonight I hung out with a whole big group of girls I met online... a sort of waiting for a missionary support group. I'd never met any of them before, and it was all together a very un-Jamilyn-ish thing to do.  But besides all of the 19 year old girl DRAMA, I had lots of fun, and met some great new friends.

* I saw my old client, my very favorite, and most challenging client, dear Karen, at a coworkers wedding reception this weekend.  It was SO good to see her.  I miss that little stinker.  But I don't miss chasing her down the street at 4 in the morning.

Life is good folks.  Life is good.

chicks vs. mother hens

In my little world of cello, there are "cello chicks" and there are "mother hens".  My dear Master Francis has been my mother hen for the past 4 years, but with my recent graduation from USU I've been wondering if that includes graduation from the chicken coup.

Carey Cheney is another prominent teacher of cello chicks in the Salt Lake Valley.  While she and her husband are out of town for the next five weeks, she has entrusted me with the teaching of her own little chicks.  And she has a BIG coup!

This has got me to thinking.  I'm barely a chick myself, how can I suddenly be in the position of mother hen?  Carey's cello chickens have been under tutelage of a master.  What could they possibly learn from me?  ...And their parents- what will they think?  When does one officially grow from chick to hen?

Well, my friends, I have just successfully completed my first week of Mother Hen-ing the Cheney coup, and I must say, it was a total blast!  From the first lesson on Tuesday morning, I felt "in the groove".  I realized that I DO know what I'm doing.  The Cheneys trusted me, and so consequently the students and parents trust and respect me too!  I feel like a natural, but I realize that I've been a "hen in training" for a long time now.  I've had lots of hens to watch, and I've been a chick for quite some time.  I'm happy to say that I'm confidently well on my way to becoming a bona-fide Mother Hen.

These are the Dayzz

This past weekend I went camping with my fam at Strawberry Reservoir.  2 grandparents, 6 parents, 5 children (if you count me in that category) 2 babies, and a partridge in a pear tree!  It was really fun to have two days to not have to do anything, although it felt like everything was going wrong...  An alarm clock that didn't go off, a Jamilyn that was 2 hours late, a missing trailer part, a dead boat battery, a missing tent pole, a smore stain on the pants, a sick Adam, Andrea, and Caroline, a screaming Caleb, and a wicked farmers tan/ burn!!  Despite all of the funny mishaps, it was much needed family bonding time.  My favorite quote from the adventure was given by 4 year old nephew Hyrum sitting around the camp fire, roasting a marshmallow on his mom's lap and looking up at the sky... "Mom, maybe tonight when we pray we should ask heavenly father the recipe for how to make stars!"  Genuinely precious!

This weekend was also Taylorsville Dayzz in the good ol' home town of Taylorsville UT.  I missed the parade and the carnival, but don't worry, I got there in time for the Neil Diamond impersonator and firework show!   Singing along to "Forever in Blue Jeans", I sat on the lawn of Park park and soaked in the mini high school reunion that was going on around me.  I found myself passing out hugs to friends that I haven't seen anywhere but Facebook in the last 4 years and thinking about how relationships morph over time.  Then, as if on cue, my old high school crush was standing next to me... he's still handsome... he's still charming... but case in point.  The people I still care about are still a part of my life, and I'll see all the rest of 'em in another 5 years.  I DID miss Lynsie and Nathan... two of my favorite Taylorsvillians are both far far away, instead of sharing the same lawn quilt as in Taylorsville Dayzz past.  The fireworks rocked my socks as they always do, and fake Neil Diamond provided a wonderfully comical sonic back drop to the nearly nostalgic scene.

My blogging debut

I'm new to the world of blogging. Sure, I've typed up random thoughts and poems back in the days of the myspace blog, but somehow this feels so much more official. An entire site dedicated to me and my life! LOL, somehow it feels a little selfish and self centered to think that there are people out and about that might want to read about me. But just in case those kind of people exist, here is what I hope to cover in this cyber sanctuary:

* My current state of being- how I'm feeling, what I'm doing, etc.
* Updates on big life changes. ie. graduate school and moving away etc.
* A section for updates on my favorite Elder Morris
* Pictures
* Poems
* Music
* ... and such :)
